Who, What, When & How?
Are you one of the following?
- An aspiring novelist, preparing your manuscript for pitching to agents and/or publishers? Or perhaps planning to self-publish?
- A skilled hybrid author, with a shelf of solidly producing self-pub and small press titles to your name?
- A sought-after Big Name, with a New York contract, working on a new project?
- Any of the above, who has also gone through revisions based on feedback from trusted and experienced prereaders—in other words, are you ready for an editor?
If your answer is yes, and your manuscript is consistently and completely formatted, and you have it saved in WORD in Times New Roman, 12-point, 1.5 point drop, 1-inch margins, let’s start talking, shall we?
For copyediting, I will edit a free sample of 3-5K words from your manuscript. If you like what I do for you, I will prepare an estimate, based on $.008 cents per word, with a $50.00 minimum charge. For that fee, I will do the following:
- Correct Grammar: tenses, subject/verb agreement, syntax, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, hyphenation
- Note inconsistencies, redundancies, dropped words, disembodied motion, florid language, narrative issues, anachronisms
For content editing , I will edit a free sample of 3-5K words from your manuscript. If you like what I do for you, I will prepare an estimate, based on $.01 cents per word, with a $75.00 minimum charge. For that fee, I will do the following:
- Correct Grammar: tenses, subject/verb agreement, syntax, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, hyphenation
- Note inconsistencies, redundancies, dropped words, disembodied motion, florid language, anachronisms
- Offer alternatives to noted inconsistencies, redundancies, dropped words, disembodied motion, florid language, anachronisms
- Offer developmental suggestions
- Offer narrative alternatives
- Also at the content editing level, after your review and revision, I will go through the manuscript a second time
Please note, we will have a much better relationship if you are aware of some harsh truths. I don’t ever want to disappoint a client. Rough drafts cannot be fixed in style and content by anyone other than the author. I am not a ghostwriter or a book doctor. Give me your best final product, and I will be with you all the way.
I’m flexible. I read fast and I read a lot. Please tell me your timeframe as soon as you know it and in as much detail as possible, and we can make a plan.
In all my work, I rely on the CHICAGO MANUAL OF STYLE and MERRIAM-WEBSTER.
After you accept my contract, in all cases I ask for 50% up front and the balance when I return your project. I can process your plastic via PayPal or Square.
